If your wondering how this is possible since ol Frank was around for Nam, let’s look back to a time a lot of folks don’t know about. At one point, Frank was manipulated by demons into killing himself and was resurrected as an angelic assassin. When Frank refused to work for Heaven, they took him up, showed him the paradise his slain family was in, then cast him back down to Earth as punishment. Frank being Frank, this only invigorated him. But as a result of this, Frank remains in his early thirties but with the mind of a much older and wiser man. (God, I wish I was making this up…..)
Height: 6’1”
Weight:200
Place of Birth:Queens, New York
Hair Color:Black
Eye Color:Blue
Marital Status:Single (Was married with children at one time.)
General Appearance: Frank is someone you would shift your gaze if you found yourself making eye contact with him. Tall, dark, and muscular are words that fit him well. As well as someone you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley. He is normally dressed in his signature black shirt with a white skull on the front of it. Black tactical pants and a black duster/trenchcoat over top of it all. This shifts from time to time based on what he is doing but that is the most often way he is seen when he wants to be recognized.
Known Relatives: Maria Elizabeth Castle (wife, deceased), Lisa Barbara Castle (daughter, deceased), Frank David Castle (a.k.a. Frank Jr., son, deceased), Mario Lorenzo Castiglione (father, deceased), Louisa Castiglione (mother, deceased), Fredo and Rocco Castiglione (paternal uncles, deceased)
Powers: Punisher is the recipient of multi-disciplinary military training from the U.S. Marine Corps. While a Marine, he also received training from the U.S. Army and Navy. From this training, Punisher is proficient in not only basic infantry skills, but in special operations, which includes the use and maintenance of specialized firearms and explosive ordnance. He is highly trained in infiltration into heavily-guarded enemy territories and structures for the purpose of assassination, captures, and military intelligence. Also, he is trained in various forms of camouflage and stealth. From his airborne training, Punisher is able to pack and maintain his own parachute rigs, as well as professionally control his landings, in daylight and at night. From his Navy UDT training, Punisher is well-skilled in extended underwater operations, including demolitions. He is skilled with a great many types of explosives, ranging from simple dynamite to plastique to improvised explosives. His hand-to-hand combat skills are more then sufficient to allow him to incapacitate and kill men much stronger than he is, as well as to deal with groups of armed and unarmed enemies, killing them all without weapons if he deems it necessary. When he was incarcerated in New York's Riker's Island Prison, though heavily outnumbered in gang-fights, Punisher has routinely killed armed, homicidal criminals with frightening ease, sustaining no injury. He is also extremely deadly in knife training, preferring the knife he learned to fight with in the USMC: the ka-bar. Additionally, he is a preternaturally-precise marksman. He is thoroughly trained and experienced in unconventional ("guerrilla") warfare. He is an armorer, a gunsmith, and an expert in field medicine.
Weapons and Equipment: The Punisher's ever-changing arsenal of weaponry includes various automatic and semi-automatic rifles, and an array of handguns, fragmentation and tear gas grenades, other explosives, and combat knives. A personal favorite is his ballistic knife, which can launch its blade with lethal force. He commonly uses M16 .223 caliber automatic rifles, Sterling Mark 6 9mm, semi-automatic rifles, 9mm Browning Llama automatic pistols, .45 caliber automatic frame pistols, .223 caliber Derringers, and Gerber Mark II combat knives.
The Punisher has a Kevlar uniform which protects him from most gunfire, though he can still suffer concussive injury or penetration from sufficient or repeated impacts.
He maintains multiple safehouses and vehicles around the greater Manhattan area as well as multiple forged identities and bank accounts (most of the funds and equipment aiding him in his work being taken from the criminals he hunts).
He drives his “Battle Van” most everywhere he goes. It’s full capabilities are ever changing. But as a constant, the van is heavily armored, can be activated and driven be remote or programs installed in it’s software, and features a mobile armory in the back.
The Punisher has been using technology derived from super-villains and other costumed characters, such as the Green Goblin's pumpkin bombs, a modified Goblin Glider, and a Doctor Octopus tentacle that he can shrink down for easy storage via Pym Particles.
Personality: Frank has been described as being obsessed with vengeance. The Punisher sees the world in very black and white terms, he solves his problems with utter finality. His response to any problem: when in doubt, hit back hard. His mental evaluation from a SHIELD doctor had the following comment.
"since we can never hope to understand why we're here, if there's even anything to understand, the individual should choose a goal and pursue it wholeheartedly, despite the certainty of death and the meaninglessness of action. That is Frank Castle. A man who knows he's going to die and who knows in the big picture his actions will count for nothing, but who pursues his course because this is what he has chosen to do."
Both Nick Fury and Tony Stark have commented on how extraordinarily high his pain tolerance is. He does not take even over-the-counter painkillers, as he feels that their benefit of dulling pain is not worth the side effects of drowsiness and slowed reflexes.
Over the years, those closest to Frank (which is still not very close) have noted a softer side of him that still exsits there. He has gone out of his way to protect people that he sees as “innocents” and to make sure he will not harm them during the course of his mission. He will do his best to not even harm police officers and others that have attempted to detain him as part of their job. While he may injure them, he will give himself up rather than kill them or permanently injure them.
Adhering to his military philosophies, Punisher is constantly training whenever he is not out on actual maneuvers. He exercises fanatically to maintain his impressive physical conditioning and sticks to a balanced diet whenever possible
Detailed History: Born in New York to parents of Italian ancestry, Francis Castiglione is a former U.S. Marine Captain. Before Frank joined the Marines, he was studying to become a Catholic priest but changed his mind because he was unable to forgive those who did evil. Also prior to his enlistment, he married his wife Maria who was already pregnant with their first child. During his time in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), Castle graduated from Basic Training, then went on to Infantry School. Immediately following that, he went through the USMC's Reconnaissance, Force Reconnaissance, and Sniper Schools. Attaining dockets, Castle was permitted to go through U.S. Army Airborne School, and U.S. Navy Underwater Demolition Team training, becoming qualified as a Navy SeAL (Sea, Air and Land). He served in the Vietnam War in a special forces unit as a point man. For heroism in the line of duty, he was decorated with numerous medals, including the Purple Heart.
Shortly after a tour in Vietnam, Castle, his wife, Maria and their children were in New York's Central Park for an afternoon picnic when they witnessed a Mafia gangland execution; an informant had been hanged from a tree. Seeking to eliminate all witnesses, the Costa crime family murdered them on the spot. However, Castle survived. Even though Frank was able to identify all of the shooters the police were unable to help Castle in his quest for justice; they were tied in too deeply to the powerful Costa family. He decided that the only punishment criminals might receive is that of physical destruction. Shortly thereafter, he emblazoned his body armor with a symbol of a death's head, and exacted his revenge. Since then he has waged a one-man war upon crime, taking the name Punisher.
Over the next few decades the Punisher would fight virtually every known criminal organization including the Italian Mafia, the Russian Mafia, the Japanese Yakuza, the Colombian and Mexican drug cartels, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Chinese Triads, Jamaican Yardies, the Irish Mob, biker gangs, street gangs, gunrunning militias, muggers, killers, rapists, psychopaths, violent racists, sadists, pedophiles, and corrupt city officials. He also assaults criminal business enterprises such as drugs, weapons smuggling, money laundering, and human trafficking.
!!!Difference in how I play him!!! : Frank has had a lot of time pass since Maria and his children were killed. And a lot has happened during that time. Frank has managed to move past some of the trauma of it all while still using it to fuel the fire inside him. He will take part in casual relationships now (He is a man after all) and has even been known to keep a small group of people as allies now. Some of them might even be called friends. Frank also has been known to drink now from time to time. It will still have to be in a location he considers secure before he will allow himself to relax and indulge in that, however.
